It was just brought to my attention that FreeNAS 8.2 RC1 is now available for download. It doesn’t look like it’s been officially announced by the FreeNAS team yet but I anticipate they will be posting something soon.

The 8.2 branch of FreeNAS offers some exciting new features , most notably the plugin system.
Currently Available Plugins
- Firefly Media Server
- MiniDLNA
- Transmission BitTorrent Client
I will probably apply this update over the weekend and begin taking advantage of the new features, as well as see what progress has been made on 8.2. I’ve played around with the 8.2 beta release a bit and although it was a bit tricky to get the plugins working they are very useful.
